You never really knew which version of Austin was going to walk out of the bathroom.

Austin's hair—and especially his facial hair—was something else.

The boy could grow a full beard in what felt like three days and grow his hair out in a month. He had beautiful hair, too. Thick, shiny, healthy hair—the kind that made girls jealous.

Whenever someone commented on how nice his hair was, I would jokingly tell them his secret was all the grease and oil from working on cars.

Whatever he was doing, it apparently worked.

The funniest part was that Austin never kept the same look for very long.

Full beard. No beard. Mustache. Goatee. Sideburns.

Some combination that probably didn't have an official name.

He changed his facial hair more than anyone I have ever known, mostly because he thought it was funny and knew that if he hated it, he could grow everything back in about a week anyway.

So there really wasn't much risk involved.

One of his friends told me a story that perfectly sums up Austin. The guys were getting ready to go out to eat when Austin decided he needed to shave.

He went into the bathroom with his trimmers... and somewhere around halfway through shaving his face, the trimmers died. Most people would have found a charger. Borrowed another set of clippers.

Used a razor. Or at the very least decided they couldn't go out in public looking like that.

Not Austin.

He walked out of the bathroom with one side of his face shaved and the other side still covered in hair.

Looked at his friends and said: "Come on, boys. Let's go." And he meant it. They laughed.

Austin laughed. And off they went.

Because that was Austin. He didn't take himself too seriously. He wasn't afraid to look ridiculous.

And he certainly wasn't going to let half a beard ruin his plans. So here they are...

      The many faces of Austin.

Some handsome.

Some questionable.

Some that probably should have lasted much less time than they did.

But every single one of them was him.
